Learning Resource Centre
Our Library is a cross-disciplinary learning hub.
During lesson time we have large groups of students with subject tutors, small groups with teaching staff, one to one tutoring and students who are given permission to work on their own in the Library. We have a collection of around 10,000 books; from classic literature to Manga graphic novels, the library is ever-growing. Students are encouraged to make book recommendations so that our library can flourish with diversity.
Most of our books are part of the Accelerated Reader initiative. This is a quiz-based reading challenge where Year 7 students compete with each other within their form class to achieve the most points and win rewards. Every ‘Reading Practice Quiz’ has a point value assigned to it based on the book level and the word count of the book (the book’s difficulty and length) - this helps encourage and make reading fun!
The library uses Accessit Library system software. This is accessible to the students via the Accessit phone app. Students can take part in and upload reviews of books for other students to see; they also have a searchable catalogue for every book in the library as well as a link to Project Gutenberg, an online database of free e-books.
The library is open between 8:55 am – 4:20 pm on Monday to Friday.
We have 36 desktop computers in our newly built library computer suite; these computers can be lowered into the desks making for a flexible work space environment.
Homework club is after school on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
