Year 7 Natural History Museum Trip
BackOn Wednesday 23rd November, one of our Year 7 classes visited the Natural History Museum.
Even with the slow start due to traffic, we made it in time to the museum to explore all the areas we set out to.
Students began in the Earth and Volcano section learning about different types of volcanoes and a bit about geothermal energy generation. They then went to experience an earthquake simulation based on an earthquake that happened in Japan.
Next on their museum tour was the rock cycle, where students got to see different types of rocks and how they are formed. They learnt about the uses of rocks in our everyday life and why some of their kitchen counters are expensive!
We then went up into space and discovered the different planets in our solar system and learnt a bit about them.
By that point the Year 7s and accompanying teachers were ready for lunch so we recharged over some very varied but, of course, ‘nutritional’ food!
After lunch we explored the ‘Animals and Insects’ section. This was by far the favourite area of the day. Students learnt about all different types of spiders, even an assassin spider that hunts down other spiders. The best part was the students finding out about all of the insects that could be living in their house in a mock house that was set up for presentations.
We then sadly had to leave for a long journey home, with students clearly worn out from a busy day by having to be kept awake on the train home!
Even with the disruption due to traffic and the long journey, students all behaved outstandingly and were a credit to the school. Lots of enjoyment was had by all!
