History Battlefields trip to Belgium
BackOn Thursday 28th November 2024, 57 students along with 6 teachers gathered at school bright and early at 5 in the morning to go to Belgium on a one day trip. We took the Eurotunnel from Folkestone and soon made it to the Ypres Salient where we spent the day.
Along with our two fantastic tour guides, students visited the Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery - one of the largest cemeteries in the region for soldiers who died in WW1, visited the Bayernwald Trenches, a German military cemetery, Langemarck, the Hooge Crater Museum where students got to handle weapons used by British soldiers and we had the opportunity to lay a wreath at the Menin Gate. Students were behaved impeccably throughout the day, asked fantastic questions and were a real credit to the school.
Before heading back on the bus to go back to Calais, we visited the beautiful centre of Ypres where students and staff had some time to buy chocolate from a variety of shops. We arrived back at school shortly before 11 pm. The students really enjoyed the experience of the day and for some it was the first time they had visited another country.
