Green Shoe Arts Drama Workshops for Year 10's
BackOn Tuesday 8th November, Year 10 drama students participated in a workshop lead by Green Shoes Arts Theatre Company, a a local youth theatre in Chadwell Heath.
The workshop was creatively-planned and appealed to pupils of different abilities and backgrounds. The practical tasks delivered were exciting and allowed pupils to develop confidence and key acting skills. Pupils were particularly engaged when interpreting a script, creating group pieces of devised work and working on the use of reactions, dramatic pauses, sub-text, gestures and vocal skills.
The students fully embraced the skills of physical theatre, improvisation, and script work. The artistic director Sam Miller said, “Students at The Warren School are excellent; I have seen so much talent today and I would love to do more work with your students.” Another workshop leader, Verona, said, “The pupils were so energetic and talented that I would be happy to work with any of them in the future.” All of the Year 10 drama students gained a wealth of knowledge from this experience and the praise and kind words about their raw talent gave them a sense of value and confidence in their performance abilities.
At the end of the session students were offered the opportunity to join the youth theatre company, to be part of community theatre projects and possibly even perform at local theatres.
I was very proud of their behaviour, practical work and evaluation skills and believe that this culturally enriching workshop gave them a sense of empowerment and a hunger for future projects working in the performing arts industry.
