GCSE PE YR11 Moderation at Lee Valley Indoor Athletics Arena

Despite heavy snow, the Year 11 GCSE PE students visited the Lee Valley Indoor Athletics Centre to complete their moderation of 60m and shot put.
The amazing indoor facility allows athletes, school children and members of the public to train and perform all year round, no matter the weather. On the two days we attended the arena the snow was deep all around but the centre remained open for business as usual.
The students were in awe of this amazing facility and produced some excellent performances as a result.
Students were filmed and times recorded for the individual component of the practical NEA.
Students had the opportunity to talk to GB athletes who are on the podium programme and the podium potential programme. Students had the opportunity to observe these athletes warm up, stretch and train using a variety of techniques. They were also shown by several top-class coaches how they use technology to enhance performance.
Roshane said, “I’m amazed at how much these athletes work on their technique to improve their performance.”
As a school we use this centre of excellence every year to provide our students with the best opportunity to improve their practical performance scores.
