Year 11 & 12 Visit to Tate Britain and The Photographer's Gallery
Back
Year 11 GCSE & Year 12 A Level photography students visited The Tate Britain where we saw the Bill Brandt exhibition. This exhibition depicted 20th century British life through surreal imagery of daily life, which merged documentary with Art. We also saw the amazing main collection which showcases some of the most famous artworks in the world such as, 'The Lady of Shalott' by John William Waterhouse.
We then travelled to The Photographers Gallery where we saw the work of Chris Killip, one of the most influential figures of British photography. His work documents the lives of those affected by the economic shifts in the North of England in the 1970s and 1980s. Other exhibitions in the gallery displayed work looking at the traditions and timelines of photography. In addition, we saw work by Aaarati Akkapeddi who explored human and non-human categorisation of photographic archives.
All students had an amazing and educational day seeing photography in real life. They are now excited to use what they have learned about to create their own photography, inspired by what they saw.
