Futures Evening 2023
Back
As part of National Careers Week, 18 professionals from industry attended The Warren School to give short presentations to our students, across all year groups, and to their parents and carers. This informative event inspired our students by providing information, advice and guidance about their future career paths, with the opportunity to ask questions from the various professionals. Our presenters talked about what they do, what education route they took, e.g. university, FE college, and apprenticeships, and gave advice to the students about how to get into their field.
Research shows that young people who had been in contact with several employers were nearly twice as likely to believe that they had a good idea of the knowledge and skills needed for the job they wanted to do.
Students are encouraged to investigate job profiles from the National Careers Service website, where they can look into skills and qualifications needed to get into jobs, what the work would be like, the average salary they could expect and what the career prospects are: https://nationalcareers.service.gov.uk/explore-careers

Feedback and comments from some of the presenters include:
I enjoyed participating in such a well-run and organised event. I hope that I have helped to contribute to your students’ thoughts about where they would like to direct themselves for the future. It was good to hear some sensible and pertinent questions from a good number of students as well as to meet some of your former students who have moved on to successful careers – this is indeed inspiring, particularly as they can back to share their journey with younger students. Jayne Phelan, Director: Investor Relations, Real Estate
The futures evening was well-organised and featured professionals with a wide range of backgrounds. The students were highly engaged throughout the session and asked thoughtful and intelligent questions about market research. It was truly a pleasure to speak with them. Rachel Skry, Associate Director, Verve Market Research
I had a fantastic time meeting with you all and hearing about your goals and ambitions for the future. I hope my journey will inspire you to know that there are so many options available and the sky is just the limit! Precious Appiah, Business Analyst | Financial Crime Change Management, M&G.
Feedback and comments from some our students include:
My experience at the Futures Evening was beyond amazing as it really educated me and my mum. I really enjoyed the former student giving tips and insight for the future. I will be attending again next year! Lale, Year 7.
I went to this futures evening and it was amazing. I learnt about profit margins and investments. I even got to ask many questions and I got them answered in full detail. This has helped me to research more in this area. Mohammed, Year 8
The Futures Evening event was very inspiring in finding a career path. The guest speakers were very professional and gave a deep insight into their careers and how they developed into what they do today. I enjoyed the evening and it was exciting to speak to professionals about the career you like and want to work in, later in life. James, Year 12.
