Year 8 Museum of London Docklands Trip
Back
A group of Year 8 historians visited the Museum of London Docklands. Students were able to get a hands-on experience during the visit and learnt about the history of the Docklands from the 18th century onwards, focusing on the area’s link with slavery, sugar and trade with the wider world.
Students got to also immerse themselves in 'Sailortown', a mockup of what Wapping, Shadwell and Ratcliffe were like in the 19th century. Students then got to see the damage that was done to the East End during the Blitz and the subsequent regeneration of the area to what it is today.
Students were engaged with the exhibits throughout, asked fantastic questions and were invited back to experience the brand new 'Execution' gallery in the summer. This was a great opportunity for students to make links between what they have been learning about in the classroom since January and the real world.
