December 6th 2023

Year 11 Geographers recently enjoyed a field trip to Walton-on-the-Naze as part of their GCSE studies. Students conducted fieldwork on the beach to examine coastal erosion and coastal management techniques. Research and evidence gained during the visit will be used towards the student’s final examination grade in their field work enquiry section.

The primary aim of this field visit was for students to gather first hand geographical details. Over the three days, students were able to develop skills which helped their learning in the classroom by creating links to the real world. Students got the opportunity to interact with each other by working in groups to carrying out the investigation. Overall this location provides excellent opportunities for students to observe coastal erosion and a variety of defences that have been put in place.

Feedback from our pupils

“It was a rather fun day out. There is only a certain amount of geography you can learn from the classroom. Being outdoors and doing real fieldwork has given me an insight into what a career using skills in geography would entail.” Year 11 student.

“I found the geography trip enjoyable and overall I had a great day. We measured the height of the groynes and size of rocks, and the results were really interesting. Year 11 student.
