As part of National Careers Week, 22 professionals from industry attended The Warren School to give short presentations to our students, across all year groups, and to their parents and carers. This informative event inspired our students by providing information, advice and guidance about their future career paths, with the opportunity to ask questions from the various professionals. Our presenters talked about what they do, what education route they took, e.g. university, FE college, and apprenticeships, and gave advice to the students about how to get into their field.

Research shows that young people who had been in contact with several employers were nearly twice as likely to believe that they had a good idea of the knowledge and skills needed for the job they wanted to do.

Students are encouraged to investigate job profiles from the National Careers Service website, where they can look into skills and qualifications needed to get into jobs, what the work would be like, the average salary they could expect and what the career prospects are: https://nationalcareers.service.gov.uk/explore-careers

Feedback and comments from some of the presenters include:

'It was a pleasure to give a talk on Dentistry at the 'Futures Evening' event. The event was very well organised, and the students were engaging as well as very respectful.

Dentistry in the UK is going through some challenging times and we need bright and enthusiastic individuals to join this profession to ensure we can deliver a world class dental service that the public deserves. I am hopeful that with the support of their teachers and parents/carers, some of the students at The Warren School can further explore this as a future profession' Dr K Ahmed, Dental Surgeon / Principal Dentist, Hermitage Clinic.

‘It was my pleasure to attend the Futures Evening event and provide some guidance and support to the future generation. I’m pleased to hear that they found it useful and hopefully this will help them making informed decision to select their future career path. Both sessions were good and interactive with good student engagement (some good questions were asked by students) which shows their understanding and eagerness. I tried to ensure the topic was tailor made to the audience keeping their future aspirations in mind. Let’s hope that our efforts will play a role in their future success’ Salman Khalid, Vice President, Global Fund Services.

Feedback and comments from some our students include:

‘Futures Evening was mesmerising and fun. I attended a Dentist talk I have learnt you have to do a five-year degree. This has inspired me to become a Dentist when I grow up’ Carl Year 7.

I attended the Engineering talks. I really enjoyed Engineering because I like to make stuff at home and we saw loads of machines and cool stuff. This has helped me to think about options like Engineering, Photography and Media’ Shaban Year 9.

‘I went to the Mechanical Engineering and the Engineering Apprenticeship talks. They were both very good and insightful as I learnt a lot about what pathway I can take in the future’ Subhan Year 11.
