Year 7 Careers Trip To KPMG

Back
June 17th 2024

On Monday 10 June 2024, Year 7 ATL Mr Halstead and Careers Co-Ordinator Mr Murray took 38 ambitious Year 7 pupils to Canary Wharf to visit the head office of the world-renowned professional services firm KPMG. All involved, including accompanying teacher Mr Picazo, were excited to receive their personalised guest passes and lanyards, adding to the authentic experience of a corporate environment.

The day was led by Talent Foundry facilitator Shirin, and supported by some friendly and conscientious volunteers from the Canada Square office, covering multiple areas of the company. The pupils were keen to learn about how professional services work, and were intrigued by the range of clients that could approach them for advice and solutions (such as Tesco and the NHS), should they have the opportunity to work there.

Pupils were taken on a brief tour, including watching people hard at work on their computers, observing meetings, and enjoying the views of the atrium and across Canada Square from one of the higher floors. The day ended with a problem-solving task, with pupil groups holding “consultations” with their volunteers about how to resolve and prevent cyberattacks on a fictional national power company. They left with lofty career ambitions and a very positive view on working in the city, especially in a high-powered and driven workplace such as KPMG.

Mr Halstead, Mr Murray and Mr Picazo would like to thank The Talent Foundry and KPMG for offering the pupils a great insight into challenging and enriching career opportunities, as well as the Year 7 pupils for their professionalism and excellent attitude at the head office.
