Yr9E Science Museum trip
BackScience Museum Visit
On 6th February a group of Year 9 visited The Winton Gallery at the Science Museum and the trip aimed to enrich the students' understanding of Mathematics in real-world contexts, linking theory with interactive experiences.
Students were well behaved and engaged throughout the trip. They were keen to get started with the activity trail, exploring, discussing and filling their booklets.
Students were amazed by the origin of some objects and games. One student told me about the work of the statistician Francis Galton who investigated the relationship between head size and intelligence.
Even more impressive, when one student explained to another that for a helicopter to land on the Globtik, its velocity must match the speed of the ship before it can even set down on the oil tanker. Other students were particularly impressed with the mathematical art displays.
Students also enjoyed the lunch seating area for a rest, some food and treats such as ice-cream, milkshakes and cookies, then they were excited to explore more. The feedback from students was overwhelmingly positive and they wanted to know when is the next trip.
